May 18 @ 12:30 pm 1:00 pm PDT

Innovation Theater 1: Booth 126
Supported By: Vertex

Program Description

Although newborn screening has dramatically improved early diagnosis of cystic fibrosis (CF), racial and ethnic minorities including Asian, Black and Hispanic patients are more often missed in CF diagnosis than non-Hispanic White patients. This program will review the prevalence and unique aspects of the diagnosis of CF in minoritized and/or adult patients, clinical symptoms that indicate the need for further evaluation, and the criteria used to establish the diagnosis of CF. In addition, we will review the impact of a delayed diagnosis on long-term patient outcomes. For the discussion section, Dr. Polineni will review case studies of cystic fibrosis diagnosis with the audience to highlight diagnostic challenges.
